If there are 2 memory slots in your computer that are already filled (in my case 1 is 128mb and the other is 512mb) will you lose any documents or information stored in the computer if you take those 2 memory sticks out and replace them with 2 1gb memory sticks?

Nope, not at all. Your memory just stores information that is being processed by the processor at the moment.
Permanent storage (pictures, documents, etc.) is on your hard drive.
And on another note, you’ll definitely notice a performance increase between 640mb and 2gb!

Nope, but you will get a big performance jump
Just make sure your motherboard can support 2GB RAM.

No that memory is just for when the computer is on for it to run the operation system. everything is loaded off the hard drive at boot up that is why boot up is slow.

Hard to say, but I would call the manufacturer and ask their tech support this question to be sure. I did that with my Dell computer and things went ok. I did have to back up my photos and music though. Everything else can be reinstalled with your start up (restore) CD.

If you’re talking about what I think you’re talking about, then no, there shouldn’t be any problem with losing data. Those memory sticks are RAM, which is kinda like the “short-term memory” of a computer. Your files, on the other hand, are stored in a different place, on the hard drive (the computer’s “long-term memory”). Upgrading the short-term memory doesn’t affect what’s stored in long-term memory.

Absolutely not!
Your computer should now run faster with 2 gigs of RAM.

No you will not lose your data. The data is stored in the Hard drive of the computer. The memory is to run the programs.
