Is 4Gbs of computer memory better than 2gbs no matter what ?

I know that every running program occupies certain amount of memory resource and I always find that my memory usage is at around 1.3gbs..
I have 2gbs of memory in my computer right now…today i found a very good deal of buying another 2gbs of the SAME type (same brand same spec etc)…will it make any difference if I throw in another 2gbs on the 2gbs that I already have ?
or it will be pretty much the same since I was using only 1.3gbs out of the 2gbs ?

Windows vista only “sees” 3 GB, so the benefits of having more memory beyond that are marginal. Unless you are using a Windows 64 bit OS.

windows 32 bit only supports up to 3gb of memory. if you do get another 2gb of memory the most your computer will recognize is 3gb.

I think you’ve pretty much got it figured out. Just like driving a Lamborghini in the city, if you have lots of power, but no use for it, it’s wasted.
Save your money for your next PC.

Depends what OS you have, if you’re having Vista, than more of memory is very good for you..
But in my opinion 2GB of random memory (RAM) is quite gr8 for not gaming people…

Well the first question you should ask is are you having computer performance issues. If your system isn’t lagging or anything, then there’s no reason to throw your money at more RAM just because it’s a good deal.
If you’re doing a lot of work in say, Adobe CS, then more RAM won’t really hurt. Overall your system will have more resources to go to if you’re ever working with huge files or anything that would benefit from having more data cached.
You should also be sure that your computer can handle 4GB of RAM before you go doing any upgrading. Check your motherboard or computer user manual to find out.

will be pritty much the same, you will only gain using more ram when playing high demanding games, but you will also need a very powerful gaming pc for that, for general use, i would suggest you stay with your 2gb kit if your only using 1.3 max. windows xp is only able to recognise 3.5gb installed max, 4gb ram kit is required to run windows vista.hope it helps.

Any performance improvement with RAM over 2GB will not be felt in anything but the most extreme gaming, or content creation. Virtualization can also consume enormous amounts of RAM.
Then there is the fact that while 32-bit OSes can theoretically use 4GB of RAM, in practice due to memory handling, that is usually 2.5-3.5GB.
Don’t waste your money on this upgrade.

Some programs, e.g. DVD authoring, movie editing, need lots of computer memory to make your task smoother.
