How Much Computer Memory Does Windows Need?
April 26th, 2010 | by computermemory |lockergnome asked:
www.twitter.com - I guess I need more memory, since I keep forgetting my own name! Sadly, I can’t just buy and install some in my brain. The question that Lynn sent in to PCPitStop is concerned about the amount of memory her computer has. She purchased a computer with 128MB of memory, which is running Vista. The store clerks keep telling her she needs more RAM, but she is wondering if they are just trying to get her to spend more money. chris.pirillo.com - http

512 RAM - everything works great considering that I dont play too many games. Anyway I have GTA San Andreas and Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay installed, they work at maximum settings. Oh..and windows Xp as my OS. Ubuntu 9.04 works great too :). I used to have 256 RAM and everything was OK, but sometimes it was slow .Probably I will upgrade my RAM because I want to try Windows 7. It worked with 512 RAM but I couldn’t use Virtual Box so I uninstalled it. I like V. Box

You should consider running RAMdisk software for one or two of your programs. I don’t think you could run a game in there, although you may be able to squeeze it in.
ramdisk . tk

i have 8GB DDR2 1066MHz
i don’t really know why i bought that much RAM.
i think originally for working with Blu-ray, but that never happened.
2GB used on desktop for me & 3.5GB when gaming, never really seen it go higher than that for me.

By avelx on May 29, 2010 | Reply
if its on vista then that cannot be possible XP runs slow with 128MB vista 1GB AT LEAST you will need 2GB to stay safe.

I run Vista x64 and I’ve to encounter any problems arising from it.
So long as you use hardware that has 64 bit drivers available, and aren’t trying to run old 16-bit software, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Vista only takes up something like 12-14GiB after installation.
More than likely the 80GB you see missing is made up of the Vista installation, the recovery partition, and the whatever the difference between 300GB and 300GiB is.

That depends, how do you mean slow?
A more specific example would be useful, and it would help to know your specs and what OS you’re running.

When MRAM hits mainstream computing we might well see Operating Systems sold on sticks of RAM.
