Computer Memory?
March 18th, 2007 | by computermemory |♥ Me ♥ asked:
My old Dell laptop broke so I got one of the new Dell’s: Inspiron 1420. It turns out, the new lapopts have crappy memories and I can barely fit all my music and other files onto my computer. Is there anyway, without deleting anything or moving thinks out of my computer, that I can get more memory?? Something like a way that Dell can physically give the computer more memory?

Yes. Just buy some more RAM and install it. You can get it from a computer store.

It isn’t memory that you don’t have enough of it is hard drive space. I suggest you get yourself a portable hard drive to store all your files on so that you will have plenty of space. You can get a 500gig portable hard drive for like $99 right now.

You could get an external HDD but if you want something inside your laptop your gonna have to swap hard drives with something bigger… Which is kind of a pain in the ass so I would just go for the external HDD.

memory is not used to store music and files. That is a hard disk issue.
Memory has more of an impact on running various programs.

Hi Dell may be able to put a bigger hard drive in for you or just buy an external hard drive that you just plug in to your PC and can store files on there! Your local PC shop should sell them as well as:

It is possible to get more memory into a laptop but I would recommend to ask dell the proper way to go about it. May I also suggest you get an external hard drive that you can plug in to your laptop and store your music and stuff on. This way if the computer breaks you’ll still have a copy of all your music. It plugs in USB so it’s easy to use.

currently you should have 2 512mb modules installed for a total of 1gb of memory, you most def need more. the max memory your system can take is up to 4gb, you need ddr2 pc 5300 667mhz sodimm’s. i would suggest buying one 2gb module and one 1gb module = 3gb will be more then enough memory

If you’re looking for more storage for files like music, videos, etc. then you want more hard drive space, not memory.
Seeing how you got a laptop and not a desktop, there’s nothing you can do except buy an external hard drive, or a “flash drive”.

Uh, the hard drive must be smaller yeah. How much stuff do you have? Go to best buy, ask about a “External Hard Drive” You plug it into your USB thing and get one with 250GB, it will hold a ton more.

That is unusual. It should have 120 GB of memory, that’s plenty of room for music and other applications. Maybe it is the location where your saving your files, though it is very unlikely.

Computer Memory also referred to as RAM. (Random Access Memory) is what makes your computer work more efficiently. If you are saying that your computer cant fit too much music into it, then you are talking about a hard drive. A hard drive is where all your music and files are stored. If you upgrade your memory to make your computer work faster you have to buy RAM. If you need more space in your computer to store music than you need a Hard Drive (HDD). If you upgrade your hard drive then you would need to copy all your files that are in your computer and store them on a disk(s) then copy them all back on to your computer once your new hard drive is installed and your computer is up and running.

Get an external hard disk drive. Some attach via USB, and you’ll be able to store all your music that way.

Dear
if ur problem is with space, then they will have to chnge the HDD from ur laptop and put a new one with more space. and they will copy all ur data and songs on the new hard drive. but if it is a problem of loadin ur musis then it is another story.
You can add some a new memmory stick into ur laptop. u just call on the Dell agent or any good computer maintinance shop and they will add a new Ram for it.

The fact that you can’t store all of your music on the computer isn’t a RAM issue, it is a harddrive issue. There are 3 ways you can improve your storage space:
1 - Buy a new internal hard drive.
2 - Buy an external hard drive
3 - Buy a network hard drive
………………………………………………………………….
Option 1
Go online and check laptop hard drive prices or go to you local retailer. You may want professional installation for this option, but it is pretty easy. Look in you owners manual for instructions.?&sno=0.22825166210421666
Buying a hard drive from dell is to expensive. Shop around.
………………………………………………………………….
Option 2
This is probably your best option. Find an external usb or firewire harddrive to keep all your music, video or other files. They come in a variety of sized. Once again, shop around for best deals.

Option 3
Network drives are an option, but they are not as portable as the usb/firewire drives.
