The Muffinman asked:

When i go to my computer and put my mouse over the my harddrive icon it tells me how much memory i have left. Lately, in the last month, I’ve been watching alot of movies online, and my memory has been going down about half a gig per movie. Does watching movies online use memory when they load or something? And how do I get the memory back.
Thanks everyone! I used CCleaner and it was perfect.

That’s not memory, that’s drive space.

You probably haven’t cleared out your internet cache and temp files ever.

Whenever you view things, it stores it in a temporary internet file. You can recover the memory by cleaning the temp files. I recommend a program (free) called ccleaner.

Whenever you visit a web site, or in your case, watch a video online, this information is stored in your memory as a .tmp file.

How do you get the memory back? Clear or delete your Internet history, and temp files.

If you’re using Windows, click on start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup.

Might want to De fragment while you’re at it.

When you go to “My Computer” what you are seeing is how much space is left on the Hard Disc Drive, not RAM. So if you are seeing half gig each time you watch a movie, that is how much is being stored on the hard drive. I would suggest that you delete some of those movie files or hire a pro for about $125.00 per hour.
