is it possible to assign some of the computer memory to graphic card?

I think I read somewhere that a graphic card can use a part of the memory. mine is 256MB but I would need it more for GTA 4. its on a laptop but its not an integrated video card.
the card is ATI HD 3470 or 3740. cant remember the number.
computer memory upgrade

No video cards come with their own onboard memory.

Unfortunately not, your VGA card has 256MB fixed memory.
You’ve probably heard talk of NVidia TurboCache technology
or ATI Hypermemory technology
Cards with this technology can use available system memory (RAM) to boost their own memory and performance.
