I think I read somewhere that a graphic card can use a part of the memory. mine is 256MB but I would need it more for GTA 4. its on a laptop but its not an integrated video card.

Usually possible if the card supports Nvidia Turbocache or ATI Hypermemory. Settings/adjustments can typically done in Nvidia Control Panel or ATI’s Catalyst Control Center.
