computer memory stores info on temporary basis. Turn off computer and memory is erased.
Hard drive stores info permanently or until erased by you.

A hard drive is where all of your files and programs are stored at.
Memory is where the programs / processes load into when you are using them.
For example: Let’s say your instant message program is IM.exe. On your hard drive, it’s just sitting there, not doing much. Just there for storage. When you run that program, it copies the IM.exe program and loads it to memory. When you close out that program, it removes it from memory. The program is permanently stored on your hard disk (unless you decide to delete it), but it was only in your memory temporarily because you requested to use it. Makes sense?
2 GB is memory and 500 GB of hard drive space is very good.

Computer memory is RAM (Random Access Memory). And it’s not really memory, because it’s only temporary and when power is out, whatever stored in RAM are gone forever, (well not forever).
When it comes to Hard Disk memory, we don’t call it memory, but storage. We store information using magnetic field on the surface of CD like plates. And Hard Disk Storage will last life time.
RAM is expensive compare to Hard Disk.
RAM is much faster than Hard Disk.
And there are other kinds of memory. Mainly, ROM(Read Only Memory), Cache Memory (resides in CPU), Flash Memory(USB drive), etc.
Cache memory is most expensive and fastest memory.
Your spec is average to good.
