Memory, also called random access memory, or RAM, consist of electronic components that temporarily stores instructions waiting to be executed by the processor, data needed by those instructions, and the results of process data or information. Memory consists of chips on a memory module that fits in a slot on the motherboard and the system unit.
The amount of memory in computers typically is measured in kilobytes, megabytes, or gigabytes. 1 kB (K. or KB) equals approximately 1000 memory locations and 1 MB equals roughly one million memory locations. 1 GB equals approximately one billion memory locations. 1 MB can hold approximately 500 letter-size pages of text information and 1 GB can hold approximately 500,000 letter-size pages of text information.
